First time Kindle owner. Its a sexy e-book reader.![]()
I have wanted a kindle since they first came out. But I forced myself to wait for the inevitable Kindle 2. Well now I have a kindle. Out of box, it feels smooth and sleek and strong. I feel like Captain Kirk on the Enterprise. The K2 does not have a creek or wobble or flex in the case. Very rigid. The grey background on the screen threw me off at first. But the text is so clear, you dont notice that the page is grey.
I bought the case from Amazon and am glad I did. It attaches firmly to the K2 with metal clips. No slips here.
I have read one book so far and have messed with the text to speech. Text to speech is nice and I can see myself using it if I am in the middle of a book and want to continue but need to get up and do a task.
Web browsing is fun. Good for getting the weather or reading some news or anything else you can think of. But dont for a minute think that web browsing is the big deal. The Kindle 2 is an E-book thru and thru. The other stuff is just to help out.
I wish I could figure out how to search for free kindle books when I am on the kindle. So far, I can only do it from a pc when I can sort by price.
Anyway. Thanks Jeff for making a great e-book reader with the support of Amazon’s growing supply of e-books behind it. Its just too easy.

What a week! Bought a new car yesterday (Toyota Rav 4) and my Kindle 2 arrived today. Love them both but the Kindle wins due to lower price and convenience. What could be better than sitting in your recliner, buying the latest books, and beginning to read in less than 15 minutes while still in your PJs. I am in book lover heaven.
Helping me keep my New Year’s Resolution![]()
I was skeptical paying $360 for the Kindle2. But, I have been using it for a few days now and I am beginning to wonder how I lived without it. I can honestly say that it is changing my life.
I have always been a big reader but have the nuicance of paper. Newspapers are the worse, and I do not miss all the folding and re-folding and RE-FOLDING while I try to read the newspaper and eat breakfast at the same time. Now, when I wake up (around 5:30am), my local newspaper (SJ Mercury) is already waiting for me on the Kindle and I can easily navigate the news with one hand while eating breakfast with the other.
The two biggest features (for me) are the different font sizes and the new text-to-speech feature. I have started “listening to the newspaper” as I drive to work in the morning.
I am looking forward to bringing my new Kindle travelling this year and helping me keep my New Year’s Resolution that I would read a book a week (I have a little catching up to do).
